Hi there
A bit about me
I moved to Memphis in June of 2001 from the Mississippi delta and attended the University of Memphis with a degree in Recording Technology. While in college I interned at the former CDMemphis.com, an Internet Record Label started by producer and musician, Norbert Putnam. Mentored by label engineer, Willie Pevear, I was taught how to keep things simple and honest – two truths I stand by to this day. During the internship, I began a small home studio called Candela Sound with college buddy, Keith Pounds, where we recorded several local and regional artists.
"John is a great engineer and a great guy to work with! He is on time, friendly, and competent. I wholeheartedly recommend him as an engineer." - Matthew Temple, The Grove Recording Studio
After graduating college in 2004, I toured with an alternative Hip Hop group, FreeSol, doing Front of House. Getting burned out from road life, I took the head audio position at Hope Church with access to The Grove, a multi-million dollar, state of the art recording studio designed by Michael Cronin.
Desiring to make myself more diverse, I pursued working with other local studios around Memphis, adding Young Ave Sound, Ardent, The Grove and Music+Arts to a roster of amazing studio partnerships.
I have a heart for the younger generation interested in pursuing music, and enjoy helping to mold and teach quality musical habits both in and out of the studio.
Working with me, I hope you'll find I not only talk the talk, but walk the walk in the values of discipline, preparation, performance and fun.
